WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years and giving President Barack Obama a potential boost with the election a month away.
The rate declined from 8.1 percent because the number of people who said they were employed soared by 873,000 — an encouraging sign for an economy that's been struggling to create enough jobs.
*SNORT* Yeah...very well played and all that. Except, there's a big problem with this kind of math...it's dishonest. The only way for the unemployment rate to reduce from a recently increased 8.2% down to 7.8% would be if somehow nearly 900,000 more employed just materialized out of the repression ridden air. That didn't happen...The number of unemployed Americans is now 12.1 million, the fewest since January 2009.
"It's a trap!!!"
What's that fishface...a trap? Hmmm...Oh..I see, yes. Thank you, Admiral.
I guess we should have expected something like this from the Narcissist in Chief. He gets his panties handed to him in front of 67 Million people and decides to throw a tantrum. And, yes...it's a trap.
The President gets his headline showing a remarkable reduction in unemployment. The media plays it for all it's worth by ramming the 7.8% number down every one's throat. Then, when Republicans actually challenge the veracity of the numbers and the math...they all get smashed across the forehead with the ole' "you don't want the American people to recover...you just want to hurt Obama," nonsense.
This changes the narrative from an inept president who debates like a cinder block, to the Republicans are un-American who are antagonizing the "black man" in the White House at the expense of the working man. Of course, to pull that off you would require a media willing to lie, lie, lie and lie. They have it in spades...
If this were a blast of jobs created to deal with the holiday seasons coming up there would have been similar activity in the beginning of Summer when municipal pools, vacation destinations, and shore communities added jobs/retracted jobs for the summer. That ripple never happened because they were part time jobs and miniscule to the whole scale. No...this is mathematical hijinks of the highest function, and likely due to someone dropping myriad folks from the employment field as "no longer looking." In other words...shrink the worker's pool, and lower your percentage. The convenience factor is to too much to overlook. The debate was a disaster that has legs....and no incumbent was ever re-elected with unemployment over 8%. Too convenient.
My advice would be to challenge the number anyway, and do it on national television during the Vice Presidential debate with your mathematician...Paul Ryan. I wouldn't be surprised to see the ratings on that debate higher than the first presidential debate. Everyone likes a good car wreck.
